REETA - Services

The services that REETA helps its clients to access - employment advice, language support, training - are not new or innovative services. But REETA has brought all of these services together in an innovative way by becoming a single point of contact for refugees looking to move into employment. It has identified a specific need in the refugee community and has been able to provide specialist support, which cannot be found elsewhere.

REETA has continued to provide individual clients with support and advice that has led to greater participation by refugees in a range of learning opportunities, preparation for work, and for some securing employment. The 3rd REETA Lewisham Employment Conference was organised in partnership with LORECCA. 113 individuals, organisation working with refugees and employers attended. REETA organised Lewisham Refugee Week activities including an Information and Fun day, a young refugees Football Tournament, creative writing, a Health Information day and trip to the Horniman Museum. Over 500 people took part in different activities. About 90 students are doing Basic Skills training (Literacy, Numeracy and ICT), DIY for refugee women and ESOL Entry level 1,2and 3.

In many ways, for refugees, employment is the key to successful integration, the chance to learn English, the ability to support oneself and rebuild a future, as well as a chance to regain self-esteem and confidence.
